Sand Point New Harbor A-Float
Float Type: Timber Frame
Owner: Aleutians East Borough, Alaska
Contractor: Western Marine Construction
Location: Sand Point, AK
Date Completed: 2025
Design Features:
Bidder-design, engineer and manufacture approximately 12,600 square feet of timber float system including foam filled polyethylene flotation units and an internally pile-supported moorage system.
Key design considerations included maximizing slip count efficiency while accommodating a range of vessel slip sizes to meet operational requirements. Float design, engineering, and production were well aligned with the project schedule and the community’s immediate operational needs.
Project scope included float-to-float connection hardware, HDPE rub boards, timber and steel bull rails, cable chase ways, utility deck penetrations, and UHMW-lined pile hoops.
The harbor system was engineered to withstand demanding wind and wave conditions while maintaining long-term structural performance. The design enhances user safety, extends service life, and minimizes ongoing maintenance requirements.
For Today’s Marine Environments
We are the first choice among owners, contractors and engineers.

Our boarding and cargo docks contemplate safe, efficient transfer of passengers and cargo, as well as longest life possible.

We design both commercial and recreational boat harbors for durability and longevity, user safety, and low maintenance.
Using extreme design flexibility we can address the unique challenges of each location to protect your infrastructure.
Many of our projects have utilized galvanized steel-bar decking, molded and pultruded fiberglass (FRP) decking.

Our projects are built to withstand the harshest environments, these are some examples of our systems put to the test.
“Without exception, I will contract with and recommend TRANSPAC MARINAS to anyone needing an exceptional contractor that is honest to a fault, focused and committed to exceptional workmanship and service.”
