Ward Cove Cruise Ship Berth

Float Type: Steel Frame
Owner: Ward Cove Dock Group
Contractor: Turnagain Marine Construction
Location: Ward Cove, Ketchikan, AK
Date Completed: 2020

Design Features:

Bidder-designed, engineered and manufactured floating steel-pipe pontoon boarding and berthing float measuring 500′ x 70′.

Fabricated in multiple 100′ sections for overland transportability, the 10′-diameter pontoons were assembled in the dry, and the dock was towed to the project site as a single unit. The dock is designed to accommodate 4000-passenger Breakaway-class cruise ship vessels in excess of 1000′ in length. The deck of the float sits at 8′ freeboard to facilitate expedited and safe passenger movement on and off the cruise ships’ main boarding doors.

The steel pontoon structure is designed to provide a service life of 50+ years, achieved using a duplex coating system (spray-metalized base coat, zinc-rich primer with epoxy top coat) and replaceable zinc-alloy anodes.
